The story of how George Jung, along with the Medellín Cartel headed by Pablo Escobar, established the American cocaine market in the 1970s in the United States.

Much of Johnny Depp’s dialogue was improvised, including when his character referenced the classic “We’re gonna need a bigger boat” from 1975’s Jaws. The original quote from Roy Scheider is also one of the most famous, improvised lines of all cinema.

To get in the character’s headspace (allowing him to improvise with authenticity), Johnny Depp interviewed the real George Jung in prison.
